Research profile

Tao Feng is an Assistant Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in the Department of the Built Environment. His main research focuses are urban and transportation planning and big data. His vision is specifically on the quantitative modeling of people's decision making in urban spaces. In contribution to big data and travel surveys, he has developed various algorithms to efficiently transform GPS data into an approximation of activity-travel diaries and generate rich information for geographical analysis. Dr. Feng has been funded several projects from EU as a PI and has wide collaborations internationally. Dr. Feng supervised a number of PhD and master students. His recent research projects are emphasized on various topics in smart mobility and cities, including autonomous driving, ride sourcing, smart energy and energy behavior, shared parking, big data in human mobility, long-term housing and mobility decisions, citizen engagement, public transport, etc.

Academic background

Tao Feng received his PhD in Urban Development (Transportation Planning) from Hiroshima University, Japan, in 2008. Before appointed as an Assistant Professor in 2013, he has been a post-doctoral researcher at TU/e. In 2017, he has been a visiting associate professor in Hiroshima University. He serves as associate editor in journal Asia Transport Studies, associate chair and scientific committee members of several international conferences. Dr. Feng obtained and coordinated several research projects, including DESENT, CHIPS and TERTS from Urban Europe and Interreg, and participated many others at national and international levels. He published more than 40 papers in refereed journals and many papers in conferences, book chapters etc.
