Sofia Rosero Abad, MSc

Sofia Rosero Abad is a researcher in the area of energy transitions. As a PhD candidate at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), she conducts research on the role of technical standards in accelerating the energy and mobility transitions. Her work forms part of the NEON Project, which looks at climate and energy challenges from a multidisciplinary point of view, with the aim of developing methodologies and technologies that can accelerate the energy transition. Her research is focused on finding out whether the standardisation infrastructure is well suited for meeting interoperability needs in energy and mobility and on identifying the cases in which mandated standards are necessary.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations with a minor in Political Sciences from the University of San Francisco of Quito (USFQ), a Master in Political Sciences from Leiden University and a Master in Energy Sciences from Utrecht University. Her combined background allows her to analyse environmental issues from a social, political, economic and regulatory perspective. She has experience working on sustainability topics, mainly in the area of mobility. Her Master Thesis focused on sustainability criteria for bioenergy from forest biomass and looked into the possibilities of harmonisation of these criteria at EU level. 

She has received Excellence Scholarships for the fulfilment of her Bachelor and both her Master studies. Before working at TU/e she was a junior consultant at studio Gear Up and worked as an intern at the International Institute of Social History (IISG) in The Netherlands.
