Research profile
Simon Kahlenberg is a Doctoral Candidate (PhD) in the Orthopaedic Biomechanics group, supervised by Prof. Dr. Keita Ito and Dr. Sebastien Callens. His project focuses on identifying micromechanical confinement strategies to regulate the growth and structural organization of articular cartilage.
Academic background
Simon Kahlenberg completed his Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology & Food Engineering at the Management Center Innsbruck (Austria) in 2020. He then pursued a Master’s degree in Biotechnology at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) in Vienna, graduating in 2025. For his Master’s thesis at BOKU’s Institute of Cell and Tissue Culture Technologies, he worked on the development, optimization, and upscaling of a millifluidic platform for encapsulating mesenchymal stem cells in composite hydrogels. Following his thesis, he continued working at the institute as a technician. In October 2025, he joined the Orthopaedic Biomechanics group at TU Eindhoven as a PhD candidate, where his research focuses on developing strategies to harness micromechanical confinement to regulate the growth and structural organization of articular cartilage microtissues.
