Academic background

Roel started his academic career in 2012 at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) at the faculty of chemical engineering and chemistry. He finished his bachelor's degree in 2015 with a project on light separation in luminescent solar concentrators, supervised by dr. Michael Debije and prof. dr. Albert Schenning. In 2015 Roel started his master in chemical engineering and chemistry at TU/e, which he finished in 2018 with a master thesis on sunlight-driven liquid crystal actuators supervised by dr. Michael Debije and prof. dr. Albert Schenning. After completing the master thesis, Roel did a 6 month industrial internship at Merck Window Technologies in Eindhoven/Veldhoven for obtaining an MSc degree. After the industrial internship Roel continued to work at Merck Window Technologies as a research engineer for 7 more months, until September 2018.

In October 2018, Roel started his PhD research project in the group of Stimuli-responsive Functional Materials and Devices (SFD) at the University of Eindhoven under supervision of prof. dr. Dick Broer and prof. dr. Albert Schenning. His research project focuses on making dynamic liquid crystal membranes for transport and separation of gaseous and liquid substances.
