Research profile

Rob Wolfs is an Assistant Professor in the unit of Structural Engineering and Design of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research and teaching focuses on digital design and manufacturing strategies for buildings and bridges. Through the adoption of these new technologies, he aims to increase the sustainability and productivity of the architecture, engineering, and construction industry. Key topics concern the application of robotics in construction, with a focus on 3D concrete printing, and numerical modelling, machine learning, and (structural) optimization.

Academic background

Rob Wolfs obtained his MSc in Structural Engineering and Design at the Department of the Built Environment of the TU/e in 2015. Following these studies, he performed a PhD research on 3D concrete printing at the same university. This research focused on experimental characterization of printed concrete and numerical (FEM) modelling to analyse structural behaviour during 3D printing processes. He obtained his PhD degree (cum laude) in 2019, and now works as a tenured Assistant Professor at TU/e.

Rob is laureate of a 2022 Veni personal grant, part of the talent programme of NWO, and recipient of the RILEM Gustavo Colonnetti medal in 2024. He was visiting researcher at IFSTTAR Laboratoire Navier (France), DTU (Denmark), and obtained a PHC Van Gogh grant to collaborate with CY University (France). He serves as associate editor for Springer's Materials & Structures.
