Research profile
Piet Sommen is Associate Professor in the Signal Processing Systems group. He is involved in different basic signal processing courses and advanced courses dealing with adaptive signal processing. He has 3 patents and is author and co-author of many papers. His main field of interest is signal processing, with an emphasis on researching adaptive array signal processing and sub-Nyquist sampling.
Academic background
Piet Sommen received his MSc in Electrical Engineering from Delft University of Technology in 1981 and then joined Philips Research Laboratories, researching CAD for circuit design and adaptive digital signal processing. He joined the Electrical Engineering department of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in 1989, initially to do his PhD (obtained in 1992) and later as Associate Professor. From January 1993 until June 1995, Sommen was a member of the faculty board as a research dean. In 1995 and 1996, he was deputy chair of the Electronic Signal Processing Systems group and until
2006, he served as vice chair of the IEEE Benelux Signal Processing Chapter and as member of the ProRISC board.
