Research profile

Nathalie Kerstens received her MSc. (cum laude) in ‘Construction Management and Engineering’ in 2014 from the TU Eindhoven. Her graduation project involved the development of a business model for Climate-KIC Innovation projects in the commercialization of technology through a start-up. Prior to this she graduated with honors from the master program ‘Industrial Sciences: Construction Engineering’ at the KU Leuven (campus De Nayer) in 2011. Her thesis ‘Hygrothermal impact on a masonry wall with interior insulation' is the result of an intensive collaboration with the KU Leuven and the Scientific and Technical Centre for Construction (WTCB Belgium) and received a national price for Best Flemish Engineering Master Thesis in 2011 (IE price).

Nathalie started working at the ITEM group in October 2014. In her first year she was fulltime occupied as the Dissemination Officer for the EIT Digital Master and Doctoral School, in which she was responsible for the process of promoting and disseminating the online Innovation & Entrepreneurship content portfolio among the EIT Digital partner universities. Her PhD project started in October 2015 and is conducted in collaboration with the Netherlands Space Office (NSO) and the European Space Agency (ESA). This project focusses on existing and potential synergies in space and energy by exploring the commercialization of space technology in the energy sector. Nathalie’s first paper from her PhD project ‘Down to earth: popularisation of geo-information services in the Netherlands’ has been published in Space Policy in 2017. Among others, her research interests are related to cross sectoral innovation and technology commercialization.
