Research profile
My research program focuses on the development of next-generation optoelectronic thin-film materials, including metal halide perovskites and transparent conducting materials. By tailoring their structural, electrical, and optical properties through innovations in materials synthesis and growth, we establish new material platforms that enable advances in energy conversion and emerging optoelectronic technologies such as solar cells and transparent electronics. This research is supported by funding from the Dutch Research Council (NWO), European Research Council (ERC) Starting and Proof-of-Concept Grants, PPS-programmatoeslag TKI, and the SolarNL Dutch National Growth Program (NGP).
Academic background
Monica Morales-Masis is Full Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology (NL) starting December 1st, 2025. Prior to this appointment, she served as a professor at the University of Twente (NL). From 2013 to 2018, she was a postdoctoral researcher and later team leader of the TCO group at the Photovoltaics and Thin-Film Electronics Laboratory (PVLab) at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. She earned her Ph.D. in Physics from Leiden University (NL) in 2012, following earlier studies in Costa Rica and the United States. She has also been a visiting scholar at the National Institute of Materials Science (NIMS) in Japan and at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) in the United States.
