Research profile

Miruna Florea is an assistant professor with the research group Building Materials of the Department of the Built Environment (unit Building Physics and Services). The goals of the group research are to obtain more sustainable, durable and functional materials and products using a scientifically and technically driven design and production methodology. Recent publications of Dr. Florea concern, amongst others, the physical and chemical properties of municipal solid waste incineration sludge, the characterization and treatment of contaminated glass fractions as building materials, and the speciation and mobility of potentially toxic elements in municipal solid waste incineration bottom ash.

Academic background

Miruna Victoria Alexandra (MarinescuFlorea obtained her Engineering Diploma from the Faculty of Applied Chemistry and Materials Science at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest in 2008. In 2007, she was a Socrates/Erasmus student at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Ingénieurs de Limoges, specializing in Material Science. From 2008 until 2009, she was a PhD student at the Faculty of Engineering Technology at the University of Twente (Enschede, the Netherlands) and from 2009 until 2014 at the Department of the Built Environment of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e, Eindhoven, the Netherlands). In 2014, she obtained her PhD with her thesis on 'Secondary materials applied in cement-based products: treatment, modelling and environmental interaction', supervised by Prof. Jos Brouwers. In 2015, after having been a postdoctoral researcher at TU/e for almost a year, she was appointed as assistant professor with the research group Building Materials of the Department of the Built Environment (unit Building Physics and Services).
