Research profile

Maarten Beelen (1986) studied Mechanical Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology. He performed his masters within the group Control Systems Technology (CST). From 2007-2011 he was responsible for the control engineering that is applied to a disposable bioreactor for cultivating tissue engineered heart valves. For his internship in 2009, he performed research on the topic of control for nuclear fusion, at the Lehigh University, Pennsylvania, and at General Atomics, California. In 2011 he received his M.Sc. degree (cum laude) on the topic of haptics for a telesurgical robot. During his study he co-organized a study trip to South-Korea, he was a tutor for student projects, a teaching-assistant for multiple courses and a recruiter for new students. Currently, he is involved in Medical Robotic Technologies B.V., a spin-off of the TU/e, where he expands his entrepreneurial experience. Furthermore, he works on the (haptic) control design for surgical robots and on system integration of the robotic system for vitreoretinal surgery.
