Academic background
Luke Silvestre studied Electrical Engineering at Texas Tech University at the Center for Pulsed Power and Power Electronics in Lubbock Texas where he received his MSc (2021) and PhD (2024) in electrical engineering. His PhD research was in studying nanosecond breakdown in insulating gases as potential alternatives to SF6. He is currently a postdoc at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Electrical Energy Systems group. His current research interests are gaseous breakdown physics, fast response pulsed power diagnostics, impedance matched Marx generators, and solid state pulsed power topologies.
Research profile
Luke Silvestre is a postdoc with the Electrical Energy Systems research group at the TU/e department of Electrical Engineering. His main research is on the development of a 700 kV solid state impedance matched Marx generator capable of arbitrary waveform shaping for the study of lighting development at high altitudes. His work focuses primarily on streamer excitation, high voltage transmission line feedthroughs, and developing high bandwidth diagnostics for pulsed power. Other research topics have included the nanosecond breakdown studies of insulating gases as potential alternatives to SF6 and the study of multipactor onset using flux limited simulations of electromagnetic fluids via the Vlasov-Poisson equation.
