Research profile

Lloyd Dodsworth is a PhD candidate in the Mechanics of Materials (MoM) group of the Mechanical Engineering department. His current research focuses on experimentally studying the effects of trace element on the mechanical performance of recycled steels and comparing these with Crystal Plasticity RVE-based simulations. Based on this comparison, the simulations would be improved by incorporating the effects of these trace elements.

This project is part of the overarching DEPMAT project, which aims at reducing the carbon emissions of steel production, currently responsible for around 7% of global carbon emissions, by increasing the amount of recycled steel used in steel production without compromising on final mechanical performance.

Academic background

Lloyd Dodsworth obtained his BSc and MSc degree (Cum Laude) in mechanical engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). He completed his MSc with a thesis showcasing the possibility for accurate micro-scale strain measurements using a single experimental EBSD patterns by means of excess-deficiency correction. During his MSc, he did an internship at the Sydney Manufacturing Hub of the University of Sydney (USYD) where he worked on studying the recyclability of a 3D-printed wood-plastic composite.
