Leon Kamp is Associate Professor in the Fluids and Flows group of the Department of Applied Physics at Eindhoven University of Technology. Kamp’s research interests cover the field of theoretical fluid dynamics. In recent years, Kamp has been focusing on the dynamics of shallow fluid layers with applications in two-dimensional turbulence and for understanding zonal flows in geophysical fluids as well as thermonuclear fusion plasmas.
Leon Kamp holds a cum laude master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). He immediately went on to do his PhD here as well, graduating in 1984 on wave propagation in plasma with a thesis that earned him the Shell Study Tour prize. He has worked at TU/e ever since, first as Assistant Professor from 1984 to 1996, then as Associate Professor. In addition, Kamp has taught and done research at various other institutes around the world, such as Dartmouth College (USA), the Australian National University, and the University of Colorado Boulder (USA).
