Kaylee Hakkel is a Doctoral Candidate in the Photonics and Semiconductor Nanophysics (PSN) group at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), with the focus on Nanophotonics. She is working on a new approach for miniaturized spectral sensors, which can replace the traditional bulky lab spectrometers by a millimeter-sized chip. The sensors operate in the near-infrared spectral range, which allows for a high-accuracy analysis of material properties in a non-destructive manner.

Kaylee Hakkel obtained her bachelor’s degree in applied physics in 2015 at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). She continued with her master’s studies in Applied Physics with the specialization in Bio/Nanoscience and Technology. During her master’s degree she joined the Photonics and Semiconductor Nanophysics (PSN) group for her final research project on fiber-tip sensors, which she finalized in 2017. After this Kaylee became a Doctoral Candidate in the same research group under the supervision of Professor Andrea Fiore.

A fascinating aspect of my work is that light enables us to make the invisible properties visible using integrated spectral sensors.
