Research profile

Joop Vermeulen is a PhD student under the supervision of Oliver Tse in the Applied Analysis group of the Centre for Analysis, Scientific computing and Applications (CASA) at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research area is Optimal Control with PDEs, and in particular analysis of adjoint-based methods for transport equations with nonlinear mobility. Via a discrete-to-continuum approach he aims to advance the development of efficient numerical algorithms for control mechanisms for example in traffic flow on networks.

Academic background

Joop Vermeulen obtained a MSc in Mathematics from Delft University of Technology in 2022, before starting as a PhD student at the TU Eindhoven in 2023. In his master thesis, he explored and constructed connections between multivariate hypergeometric orthogonal polynomals and Lie theory.
