Academic background

Jeroen Knippenberg received his Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in 2014. Following was a Master study in the Mechanics of Materials group of the Mechanical Engineering department of the TU/e. In 2016 Jeroen visited the IMDEA Materials research center in Madrid, Spain for an experimental internship on tri-axially braided carbon fiber composites. His studies concluded with an experimental and numerical graduation project at the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) on the topic of Additive Manufacturing of Ceramics using VAT photopolymerization. In 2017 Jeroen received his Master’s degree and was appointed a PhD position in the group of Marc Geers continuing with his work on Additive Manufacturing.

Research profile

His PhD research is focused on the integration of electronic functionality into Additively Manufactured products, by means of Hybrid Additive Manufacturing. Jeroen is working on a process model to be able to predict internal residual stresses and conductive track damage in these printed electronics. The challenge is to uncover the relations between printing process parameters and printed product properties in order to improve product designs and production processes. The resulting model will be used to create design rules for industry partners who are designing and producing printed electronics.
