Using the fascinating & novel world of Photonic Integration, I want to explore the endless possibilities of interesting applications in sensing and high-tech communications.
Research profile
Jasper de Graaf is a Doctoral Candidate at the Photonic Integration group in the Electrical Engineering department of the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Using the inhouse state of the art photonic integrated technology, a large range of new devices and systems can be realized with a wide range of applications in healthcare, high-speed communications, industrial sensors and many more. In particular, Jasper will be using this technology to explore the possibilities of Terahertz generation using Integrated Photonics, enabling a whole new range of frequencies for sensing and high-speed communication. He will focus on the complete process of a photonic integrated circuit, starting from device design and circuit design, followed by cleanroom fabrication and characterization in the measurement lab.
Academic background
Jasper de Graaf obtained his Master degree with distinction in September 2020 at the Photonic Integration group in the Electrical Engineering department of the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), where he now is a Doctoral Candidate. He was born in Julianadorp (The Netherlands) in 1997 and started his Bachelor in Electrical Engineering, also at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in 2015. During his studies, he developed interest in Photonic Integration, and continued his masters within the Photonic Integration group at TU/e. In his masters, he did an internship at the Photonic Integrated Circuits group at the Aarhus University in Denmark, and he did his graduation project in collaboration with ASML in Veldhoven.
