Tactile sensing and perception is a key technology to make autonomous systems physically interact with environment.
Hyosang Lee is an Assistant Professor in Robotics Section, Mechanical Engineering Department, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Hyosang’s research interests primarily lie in the area of tactile sensing and perception technologies, with a strong motivation for the integration of sensory design and intelligence towards the realization of whole-body robot skin.
Hyosang has a versatile background in mechanical engineering and robotics. He obtained a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from Korea University and a Master in Robotics Program and Mechanical Engineering (double major). In 2017, he received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technologies (KAIST). After obtaining his PhD, he joined the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems (MPI-IS) in Germany as a Postdoctoral Researcher and a Research Scientist until 2021. After years of experience in the field of tactile sensing and perception, he led an independent research group on Intelligent Tactile Systems at the University of Stuttgart, Germany until 2024. His research group focused on creating a human-like artificial tactile skin, comprising smart materials and structures, multiphysics simulation, sensing electronics, signal processing, and machine learning.
