Research profile

Héctor Ortega-González is a PhD student in the Electrical Engineering department, currently located at Thales Alenia Space in Toulouse, France. A researcher in the ANTERRA project, his work focuses on innovative front-end phased-array antenna architectures for LEO satellite constellations, enabling 6G direct-to-cellphone communications. Combining antenna, RF and systems engineering, Ortega-Gonzalez's research aims at achieving efficient, compact and low-cost solutions for multi-beam, wide-scanning space-borne phased-arrays operating in different frequency bands.

Academic background

Héctor Ortega-González obtained a Double Master's Degree in Aerospace Engineering (Diplôme d'Ingénieur) and Telecommunications Engineering (MSc) from ISAE-SUPAERO and TelecomBCN (UPC) in 2020. That same year, he also received a Research Master's Degree in Telecommunications from the Université Fédérale de Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées. In 2018, he obtained his Bachelor's Degree (with Honours) in Telecommunications Engineering from TelecomBCN. For his Master's Thesis, carried out at Airbus Defence and Space, he worked on phased-array direction-of-arrival estimation algorithms. His Bachelor's thesis, at ISAE-SUPAERO, focused on GNSS positioning techniques for harsh urban environments.
