Research profile
Gregor Baer is a Doctoral Candidate in the Information Systems group at the department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences (IE&IS) at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). He studies how we can understand why AI algorithms make the decisions they do. The key questions center on what makes explanations useful - from technical measures of quality to how domain experts or data scientists interpret and use them in decision-making. Working with time series data, he investigates approaches to build AI systems that support meaningful understanding of their predictions and explore how domain expertise can be fed back through explanations to improve these systems.
His main research interests include Artificial Intelligence (AI), explainable AI, data-driven decision-making, time series analysis, and human-AI interaction. He is supervised by Dr. Pieter van Gorp, Dr. Isel Grau Garcia, and Dr. Chao Zhang.
Academic background
Before joining TU/e as a PhD candidate, Gregor completed a master's degree in Data Science at Utrecht University and a master's degree in Economics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He currently contributes to the human-centric AI pillar of the EU research project ENFIELD.
