Frank Sperling joined and helped to kick-off the High Tech Systems Center (HTSC) of the Eindhoven University of Technology in April 2014. He is a strong believer in innovation and is always on the look-out to match 'market pull' with 'technology push'. Since the start of HTSC Since then he has been active as a program manager coordinating research collaboration among various departments of the TU/e as well as efforts for industrial valorization. The main areas of responsibility are advanced Motion Control, Thermal-mechanical modelling and control, Scientific metrology instruments and system design. Frank is also involved in the Mechatronic System Design (MSD) PDEng program and lectures on Mechatronic Design (pre-bachelor elective).
Frank Sperling received his Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (System and Control) in 1983 from the Delft University of Technology where he stayed on as assistant professor until he joined Philips Research in 1989. After seven years of research on Extreme Precision Motion Systems, primarily focused on applications in optical lithography he moved on to fulfill a number of management roles within Philips from 1996 until 2003, giving guidance to development groups of mechanical, mechatronics and control designers. In 2004 he left Philips to join SKF where he headed a small engineering research group on Mechatronics, in 2006 he accepted a job at ASML as project leader and later moved on to ASML line management in 2009. In 2011 he became a partner of-, and accepted a position as technical director at Nobleo Technology, a consulting agency and knowledge house in the area of high-tech mechatronics.
Here at HTSC we perform fundamental and multidiscpilnairy research and educate t-shaped enigeers for the industry.
