Research profile

Floris Remmen is a PhD Candidate in the Mobile Perception Systems group. MPS focusses on the perception of the environment and AI used in self-driving or autonomous systems, and Floris' aim is to create a map which is required for autonomous driving, more specifically he's delving deeper into feature extraction, matching and efficient storage. Floris also focusses on scenes where the aformentioned methods are not trivial; rain versus sun, night versus day but also seasonal changes.

Academic background

Floris got his first masters degree (MSc. Automotive Engineering) from the University of Antwerp in 2013 with a project titled "Simulation of a hybrid driveline in AMESim." Next, he moved to Eindhoven to go deeper and graduated from Eindhoven University of Technology as ir. in 2017, where his thesis was centered around the development of a method to predict a cut-in scenario for automated driving assistance systems. This thesis was also published in an IEEE Conference (ICVES 2018). In 2017 he started the first year of his PhD in the MPS group.

Onderwijs en Doceren

In the first two years of his PhD Floris was responsible for multiple practicums including 5XSJ0 and 5ATA0. Furthermore, Floris does some guest lectures, helps with 4ATA0 and has had multiple bachelorstudents each year.
