Research profile

Fabian Eisenreich is an Assistant Professor in the Polymer Performance Materials group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Fabian’s research focuses on the design of new types of sustainable polymers that fulfil the criteria of circularity. He builds on his expertise in organic chemistry, polymer science, catalysis, and photochemistry to devise innovative strategies for closed-loop recycling. Fabian aims to employ the power of light as a green energy source to make and break chemical bonds in polymeric materials. This involves the development of smart monomers that can switch between polymerized and depolymerized states on-demand.

Academic background

Fabian Eisenreich studied Chemistry at the Humboldt University of Berlin and obtained his master’s degree in 2014. Fabian continued with his PhD research at the same university under supervision of Prof. Stefan Hecht and received his doctoral degree with summa cum laude in 2019. During his PhD, Fabian visited the laboratory of Prof. Craig Hawker at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In 2019, Fabian joined the groups of Prof. Bert Meijer and Prof. Anja Palmans at TU/e as a postdoctoral researcher. In 2022, Fabian was appointed Assistant Professor in the Polymer Performance Materials group.

Fabian received several stipends during his academic career, including the Feodor Lynen fellowship of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. In 2021, he was awarded a VENI research grant from NWO to investigate sustainable chemical processes. Fabian serves as an Early Career Advisory Board Member of ACS Precision Chemistry and reviews regularly for top chemistry journals such as JACSAngewandte Chemie, and Chemical Science
