Persoonlijk profiel

Research profile

Since his PhD Eduardo is devoted to develop drug delivery solutions for cancer treatment through materials science. By making stimuli-responsive nanocarriers he has gained a strong background in many different materials and technologies, as magnetic nanoparticle synthesis and characterization, hyperthermia, mesoporous silica nanoparticles, thermoresponsive polymers, proteins and cytotoxic drugs. In addition, he gained a comprehensive experience in oxygen delivery, protein encapsulation, photdynamic therapy and self-assembly of polyelectrolytes. Now working at TU/e his research interests have not changed but focused on research and development of nanodevices based on elastin-like polypeptides for applications in nanobiotechnology and nanomedicine, aiming to develop functional nanostructures which allow the detection and treatment of diseases.

Academic background

Eduardo Guisasola PhD obtained his BSc grade in chemistry in 2010 at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Next year he was granted with an International Excellence Moncloa's Campus PICATA Fellowship (International Talent Recruitment Program) to conduct his thesis. He completed an MSc in Chemistry Science and Technology, specializing in Nanotechnology before he afforded his PhD in Pharmacy from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 2016, working at the Smart Biomaterials Research Group. His first postdoc position in San Sebastian gave him the opportunity to perform a project for industry with Progenika Biopharma (Grifols) at CIC biomaGUNE. Then he went over to the fields of soft matter and biochemistry at the same research center working as a postdoctoral researcher jointly in the Soft Matter Nanotechnology and Biomolecular Nanotechnology laboratories. He was recently granted with a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship to work at the Eindhoven University of Technology at Jan van Hest's Bio-Organic Chemistry group.
