Academic background

Dook van Mechelen received his M.Sc. degree (with honors) in Physics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 2005 and earned his PhD in experimental Condensed Matter Physics from the University of Geneva, Switzerland, in 2010. From 2011 until 2020, Dook worked at ABB Corporate Research, Switzerland, where his research matured THz spectroscopy for sensing applications. In September 2020, Dook was appointed Associate Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e).

Research profile

Dook van Mechelen is an Associate Professor leading the Advanced Sensing & Quantum Materials (ASQ) cluster of the Signal Processing Systems (SPS) group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research focuses on developing novel sensing concepts, connecting basic research in condensed matter physics and photonics with novel concepts of physics-based signal processing to relevant application domains in security, agriculture and industry. His expertise ranges from optical spectroscopy, with an emphasis on the THz range, to industrial sensor development, signal processing and condensed matter physics.
