Research profile

As a part of his Ph.D. research, Dey is working on the human factors of vehicle automation. His research focuses on understanding the nature of the interaction between vehicles and other road users in the present scenario of human-driven vehicles of today, and investigating how these interactions can be facilitated or augmented for autonomous vehicles of tomorrow. This work is a part of the i-Cave project and addresses the communication between autonomous vehicles and surrounding traffic participants (pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers of non-automated vehicles).  

In this work, design-driven research is crucial since multiple concepts and prototypes are required to be developed and tested to validate theories and come up with practical and viable solutions. The goal of his research is to come up with scalable solutions that enable road users to interact with autonomous vehicles with trust and confidence.
