Research profile
David Melo is a Postgraduate Design Engineer in the Electronic Systems group. His research is part of the UMOSA project (Unobtrusive Monitoring of Sleep Apnea). He is working under the supervision of dr. Sander Stuijk, dr. Mark van Gastel, and dr. Willem Verkruijsse on the development of a laser-based illumination unit for remote Photoplethysmography (rPPG). His work is performed in collaboration with Philips Research.
Academic background
David Melo finished the integrated master's program in Biomedical Engineering (B.Sc and M.Sc degrees) from the NOVA School of Science and Technology, Lisbon, Portugal in 2017. His master thesis was developed at Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS, in Lisbon, and was focused on the design of an optical system for retinal image acquisition. Currently, he is a PDEng trainee in the Electronic Systems group at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research interests include healthcare technology, optics, and prototyping.
