Dan Jing Wu received her bachelor degree in biomedical engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). During her bachelor she studied a semester abroad at the Queen Mary University London to expand her knowledge in the biomedical engineering field and performed her bachelor thesis at Xilloc Medical B.V. where she focused on the cutting accuracy of an optimized 3D-printed surgical guide.
She started with a master degree in the biomedical chemistry group of prof. Bert Meijer and prof. Patricia Dankers. Moreover, she successfully finished the honours program “Netherlands Research School of Chemical Biology”. In parallel, she received the certificate of Entrepreneurship and the certificate of Technical Management on top of her master degree. For her master thesis she initiated collaboration with the Catharina Hospital, in which she developed a prodrug for sustained drug delivery system to treat Peritoneal Carcinomatosis using supramolecular polymers. Her final internship was performed in the group of prof. Dietmar Hutmacher at the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia, where she investigated melt electrospun scaffolds for in vitro and in vivo biomedical applications.
Currently, she is working on the development of a dynamic responsive supramolecular polymers to be applied for 3D printing of controlled complex structures for biomedical applications. Her scientific expertise is mainly: polymer chemistry, material characterization, 3D processing techniques and cell culture.
Extracurricular activities:
Dan Jing is the co-founder of the Dutch fashion brand NOYA NOIR. The main focus is the design of new functional fashion items. The fashion items are sold globally and have been published in many high-end Dutch fashion magazines. Furthermore, she became an active science communicator after being selected as one of the young ambassador of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. She writes blogs, makes vlogs and gives talks at events and in media about her research and show more insight about the job of an everyday scientist. Recently, she became the scientific media-ambassador of de Balie STUDIO Amsterdam to promote more scientific topics in the media and to motivate and inspire the young generation for the scientific field.
