Research profile

Chiara Rabotti is Assistant Professor in the Signal Processing Systems group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). During her PhD research at TU/e, Rabotti employed modeling and biomedical signal analysis to improve maternity caredeveloping new methods for noninvasive pregnancy monitoring and prediction of premature birth. With the VENI grant she received in 2012, Rabotti is funding her research on the analysis of uterine activity outside pregnancy to increase the success rate of assisted reproductive technology.  

In general, Rabotti’s research focuses on developing dedicated processing tools for bipotential signal measurements such as electrohysterography, electromyography and electrocardiography. Since these signals are usually recorded noninvasively, developing multiscale, physiology-based modeling is a fundamental step for robust and accurate estimation of the relevant diagnostic features. Clinical relevance of the developed methods is top priority, strengthened by a tight, long-standing collaboration with local hospitals and health centers. 

Academic background

Chiara Rabotti holds an MSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Florence (Italy) and obtained her PhD from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in 2009 for her thesis on the characterization of uterine activity during pregnancy. She worked as researcher for Twente Medical Systems International for a year before returning to TU/e as postdoctoral researcher. In 2013, she was appointed Assistant Professor at TU/e.
