Research profile

Toos van Gool is a Doctoral Candidate at the Power and Flow group in the Department of Mechanical Engineering under supervision of full professor Philip de Goey and assistant professor Jeroen van Oijen. She researches numerical techniques for the simulation of 1D metal particles combustion as part of the metal fuel cycle. Metal powders are very promising high-energy-density fuels that are carbon free and recyclable.

Academic background

Toos van Gool obtained her BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in 2017, with cum laude. She obtained her MSc double degree in Mechanical Engineering (Power and Flow) and Systems & Control (Control Systems) in 2020. As part of the master program, she did her internship at UC Berkeley, where she worked on the numerical modeling of  a 1D polymeric membrane. The topic of her graduation project was 'Active control of thermo-acoustic instabilities with ozone.'. She worked on this topic under the supervision of Jeroen van Oijen, Leyla Ozkan, Carlos Mendez Blanco and Thijs Hazenberg. After graduation, Toos joined the Power and Flow group as Doctoral Candidate. In this position, she is working on model development for metal flame oxidation.
