Bob Walrave is an Associate Professor of Modeling Innovation Systems at the Eindhoven University of Technology. His research interests are centered around strategic decision making in dynamically complex situations in the context of innovation management and entrepreneurship. He is  particularly interested in modeling innovation systems within and across public and private organizations.

Typically, he draws on longitudinal research approaches, aiming to answer so-called ‘how’ questions—to develop process theories and intervention mechanisms by means of system’s thinking and system dynamics modeling. Examples of his work include: identifying potentially destructive dynamics that arise due to the interaction between  executive  and non-executive top managers while implementing a new innovation strategy; managing the alignment challenges that arise in complex new product development initiatives that involve many different stakeholders; and the development and maintenance of innovation ecosystems.

Bob Walrave holds a Ph.D. in strategic innovation management (awarded best BETA dissertation) from the TU/e and an MSc (with honors, cum laude) from the same university. In the past, he also worked as an academic supervisor at Antwerp Management school.

In addition to his research, he is a passionate and experienced educator, teaching and supervising students, practitioners and policymakers on innovation management and strategy as well as systems thinking and system dynamics modeling. Bob is a Visiting Professor at the University of Antwerp and works as a consultant in the area of innovation. His work has been published in several top journals, such as the  Journal of Management Studies, Research Policy,  Industrial and Corporate Change, R&D Management, Technological Forecasting and Social Change and System Dynamics Review.
