Research profile

Behnaz Bagheri is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Physics. She develops advanced multiscale simulation frameworks to engineer light-matter interactions, plasma-matter interactions, and next-generation electronic and optoelectronic devices. Her research bridges ab initio quantum mechanical calculations, force field-based molecular simulations, and continuum modeling (control-volume and finite-element) to establish predictive structure-property relationships that connect atomic-scale mechanisms to device-level performance. These models enable the design and optimization of functionalized materials, advanced devices, and plasma-based processes that power emerging high-tech industries.

Academic background

Bagheri has a strong background in theoretical physics and multiscale computational modeling, with a deep commitment to understanding how complex physical systems behave across length and time scales. Her training includes a Postgraduate Diploma in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics from the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP, Italy) and a PhD carried out at the University of Waterloo and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, with a visiting research appointment at McGill University (Canada). Her doctoral research was completed in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at TU/e following the relocation of her research group. Following her PhD, she further expanded her expertise in multiscale simulation methodologies during a postdoctoral fellowship at Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI, Amsterdam). She now leads research to advance high-tech systems through predictive modeling that connects quantum-scale phenomena to device-level performance.
