Trained as an interdisciplinary scholar, Anne Veere Hoogbergen initially obtained her Bacherlor's degree in Architectural History with honours at Utrecht University in 2019. She continued her studies at the University of Amsterdam where she obtained her MA in Heritage and Memory Studies in 2021. In this same year, she graduated Cum Laude from the MSc Cultural Anthropology: Sustainable Citizenship at the UU. In her studies Anne Veere always maintained a special interest in socio-cultural processes, lived experiences and the interplay between nature and culture. During her studies in anthropology, these interests led her to investigate the experience of ‘Ecological Nostalgias’ and the possible loss and transformation of the intangible heritage of the Elfstedentocht and ice-skating on natural ice by the Friesian community. Her resulting thesis ‘Waiting for Yesteryears’ was recently (December 2022) rewarded with the Albert van der Zeijden Thesis Prize by the Dutch Center for Intangible Heritage.
