Persoonlijk profiel

Research profile

Anna Wilbik is an Assistant Professor in the Information Systems Group of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Her areas of expertise include artificial intelligence, information systems and databases, business intelligence, data mining, and machine learning.

Anna’s research interests are focused especially on linguistic summaries and computing with words. Data analysis methods use numbers, figures or mathematical equations to show data, decision recommendations and patterns. Yet for a human, the natural way of communication is natural language: words, not numbers or figures. This causes a gap between the meaning of data and human understanding. Anna is working to close this gap.

She is especially interested in the application of these research areas in the business domains of healthcare and agri-food, as well as for business process analysis in general.

Academic background

Anna Wilbik received her PhD in Computer Science from the Systems Research Institute, Polish Academy of Science, Warsaw, Poland, in 2010. She also holds an MSc in Computer Science (with honors) from Warsaw University of Technology. Anna is an alumnus of the Stanford University TOP500 Innovators: Science - Management - Commercialization Program. In 2011, she was a Post-doctoral Fellow with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Missouri, Columbia, USA.

Anna has previously held positions at the Faculty of Mathematics and Information Science at Warsaw University of Technology and at the Warsaw School of Information Technology and translated several academic books for PWN Polish Scientific Publishers. She has published over 50 papers in international journals and conferences and was part of organization of a few conferences in the area of IT and computational intelligence. Anna is also chair of the IEEE CIS task force on Linguistic Summaries and Description of Data.
