Research profile

Remco Fijneman is a Doctoral Candidate in the Horizon 2020 ITN MULTIMAT. His work focusses on the rational design and assembly of mesoporous silica microspheres via sol-gel synthesis and their analysis by advanced 2D and 3D electron microscopy techniques. The goal of his research is to design and synthesize the next generation of tailor made silica-based materials for use in separation applications.

Academic background

Remco Fijneman studied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) where he obtained his master’s degree (MSc) with a specialization in Materials Chemistry in 2016. During his studies he did two international internships, first at the Harvard John. A Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (USA) in the group of prof. Joanna Aizenberg and later at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (USA) in the group of prof. James De Yoreo. Since September 2016 he is a Marie Curie Doctoral Candidate in the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry at TU/e under the supervision of prof. Bert de With and dr. Heiner Friedrich. From 2016 to 2019 he performed his doctoral research on-site at Nouryon Pulp and Performance Chemicals in Bohus, Sweden
