Research profile

Abhijit Kalbhor is a researcher and formal doctoral student in the Power and Flow group in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e).  With increasingly stringent regulations on aircraft emissions, there is an urgent need for accurate and reliable soot models to accelerate the combustor design process. In this regard, Kalbhor's research primarily focuses on developing a computationally efficient modeling strategy for predicting soot characteristics in conditions relevant to the aero-engine operation. Kalbhor complted his PhD in 2023. His PhD research was a part of 'Horizon 2020' project 'ESTiMatE' funded by the European Commission within the 'Clean Sky' research program. 

Academic background

Abhijit Kalbhor completed his Master's in Aerospace Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc) in 2017 with a major in Propulsion. His thesis concerned Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) studies on autoigniting hydrogen jets in shear flows.

Prior to starting PhD, Kalbhor worked as Research Associate in the ‘Reactive Flow Physics Laboratory’ at the IISc. At RFPL, he contributed to the collaborative project supported by IISc-ISRO Space Technology Cell (STC). He also extended the On-the-Fly Lagrangian Particle Tracking technique for the analysis of turbulent expanding flames.

Kalbhor holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Raipur with a University Gold Medal. He also worked as a Maintenance Engineer for the Govt. of India Maharatna PSU, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited.
