We develop living technologies based on synthetic biology to tackle important societal problems including the development of DNA data storage, biomolecular computing devices and engineered cells that can be interfaced with the human body to detect disease biomarkers and allow autonomous, closed-loop therapeutic functions. In this effort, we combine experiments with molecular modeling.
Living Technologies for Societal Challenges
Synthetic biology can help address key challenges facing the planet and its population. Research in synthetic biology may lead to new technologies such as data storage on DNA, biomolecular computers or programmed cells that self-assemble at the sites of disease to repair damage. To achieve this goal, we employ a multidisciplinary approach that combines elements from DNA/RNA nanotechnology, genetic engineering, microengineering and the modelling and simulation of biomolecular networks.
