Introductie / missie

We investigate the physics and applications of nanophotonic structures and devices based on III-V semiconductors. Key research topics include the control of radiative emission in nanostructured semiconductors, nano-opto-electro-mechanical systems for sensing and communication, and integrated microspectrometers.

Spontaneous emission at the nanoscale

We investigate the physics of spontaneous emission in nanophotonic structures where the emission rate is actively controlled. This includes coupled-cavity structures where a laser-induced detuning modifies the field distribution and thereby the emission rate, and active optomechanical structures where emitters, photons and phonons are coupled via the optical field

Nanophotonic sensors

We investigate the fundamental limits and applications of optical sensing using nanophotonic structures. By using advanced nanophotonic concepts we engineer the spectral response of detectors and emitters to realize integrated spectrometers with optimized performance and minimum footprint. We further investigate a novel generation of optical sensors based on photonic-crystal nano-opto-mechanical structures, for application in nanoscale metrology and industrial process monitoring.
