Introductie / missie

We carry out fundamental research on the energy conversion theory, methods, and systems, that serve as enabling technologies for future developments in electromechanics, power electronics and motion systems.

Highlighted phrase

We want to remain the academic frontrunner in sustainable energy conversion systems in the Netherlands

Over de organisatie

Electromechanical technologies and devices of all sizes are part of all areas of society. These devices need to meet increasingly stringent demands for precision, efficiency and sustainability. The Electromechanics and Power Electronics group researches the energy conversion theory, methods and technology needed to build electromechanical devices that live up to that challenge.
To do this, we closely collaborate with national and international industrial and academical partners. Together, we create prototypes at high technology readiness level (TRL) and work on many projects co-funded by industry. We work on widely disseminating our results, so partners in our extensive national, European and world-wide network can apply them in their designs.

In Electromechanics, we have a strong synergy of theoretically and experimentally verified innovative results. Our research efforts mainly focus on novel multifunctional electromagnetic and electromechanical system solutions (over-actuated, non-periodic, non- or quasi-symmetrical, re-configurable structures) for high-tech precision technology for different motion profiles, medical technology, advanced robotics and automotive concepts.

Our research in Power Electronics is mainly focused on the design of converters for efficient sustainable energy systems – constantly improving their performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Our converter designs are used in the high-tech precision technology, medical technology, advanced robotics and automotive concepts.

Experimental verification is essential, which we do in our modern and versatile 680 m2 laboratory. We often use a mechatronic system approach that includes specialists in electromagnetism, materials science, control engineering, mechanical engineering and thermodynamics.

  • SDG 13 – Klimaatactie
  • SDG 14 – Leven onder water
