Aim in the research field 'Experiments' is to assist in both clinical decision making and in developing cardiovascular devices and measurement techniques, e.g. heart valves and mechanical support systems. The experimental models include mock-loops, in vitro setups and ex vivo beating heart setups, that employ slaughterhouse porcine hearts. These setups allow for testing of devices and hypotheses in an environment that is more accessible, more controllable and not subjected to ethical considerations like the real patient. In addition, next to data obtained in collaboration with our academic and clinical partners, the experimental models also provide information for verification of our mathematical models.
