The Anton Paar Litesizer offers three measurement modes: dynamic light scattering (DLS), electrophoretic light scattering (ELS), and static light scattering (SLS). DLS can be used to measure the diffusion coefficient of particles and therefore to measure the apparent hydrodynamic size of particles in solution.
ELS applies an electric potential difference across a particle dispersion and measures the velocity of the particles, thereby determining the electrophoteric mobility. From this, the zetapotential of the particles is determined.
In SLS mode, the instrument can be used to do a Zimm-analysis for the determination of molecular mass and second virial coefficient.
The instrument is also able to measure sample transmittance. Further, it is possible to measure sample refractive index (with limited accuracy, but sufficient for light scattering measurements).
