Omschrijving

The course will start with an introduction on the status of and challenges in the detection of biomarkers. After an introduction in basic biochemistry and molecular recognition, the principles, quantification and applications of immunoassays will be discussed. Both label-free detection principles as well as detection with labels will be introduced. Different transducers based on optical, magnetic and electrical detection will be critically evaluated on their quantification, sensitivity and applicability.
The challenges of in-vivo sensing will be discussed and recent research topics on both physical detection principles as well as molecular engineering will be addressed.

Doelstellingen

You will be able to:

- explain different molecular recognition and signal generation techniques
- evaluate the analytical performance of a biosensor
- interpret literature on molecular biosensors
- propose a biosensor design for a specific target that meets the application requirements
