Can we quantify and understand changes in for instance the health of people, the conditions of machines, the growth of economies, etc.? Answers to these types of questions require the collection of repeated data over time (longitudinal data) and a proper analysis of this data that deals with complexities in longitudinal data. Longitudinal data analysis teaches about the different statistical techniques that would help understand longitudinal data and how this can provide knowledge.
