Lab on a Chip Microdevices is a new, vibrant and proactive course that is offered to students in their M.Sc. studies (ME) and the 3rd year of their B.Sc. studies (BME). In this course, you will team up with four other team members to address microfluidics-themed challenges every week and deliver a hands-on project assigned to you by a real company. The emphasis will be on and practical skills. In this course, you will learn about how to produce an application-specific microdevice, how to functionalize it with the necessary tools (such as separation elements, sensors, etc.) and how to perform data analysis. All of the principles and concepts will be introduced in a bottom-up approach, focusing on examples of actual application areas already in use today. For each of these applications, the relevant design concepts and physical mechanisms are categorized in application domains, so that the relation with practice is immediately evident. Special attention will be given to exclusive lab trainings for soft lithography.
