In this course we will address the following questions: How is life determined by the laws of physics? How can the behavior of living tissue be explained by biological physics in terms of thermodynamics, molecular interactions and transport properties? Which biological physics questions do people at the TUe try to answer and how?Doelstellingen
After the end of this course, you (the student) will be able to:1. Define the molecular building blocks in living cells and describe which forces act between these building blocks in biological processes.
2. Explain the elementary physical processes that control biology at a microscopic and molecular level and indicate the relevant timescales of these processes.
3. Identify the relevant physical principles at work in specified biological processes.
4. Calculate (estimate) the energies and forces involved in the processes that are related to the operation of molecules and cells in living species.
5. Describe experimental techniques that are used to measure energies and forces in the area of biological physics
