Omschrijving

This course reinforces the basic biostatistics and data analysis skills acquired in the course 2DM80, Biostatistics & Linear Algebra. Central in the approach is the modelling and analysis of data obtained from experiments and clinical trials through (generalized) linear models. Both multiple linear and logistic regression, will be discussed, as well as one-way and factorial ANOVA for randomized groups and for repeated measures. Also attention will be paid to multiple comparisons, contrasts and non-parametric methods, such as the Kruskal-Wallis and the Friedman test. Finally attention is paid to the analysis of categorical data and to sample size determination. We emphasize examples from the biomedical practice.
Contents in modules: the course consists of (parts of) the modules S9 (goodness of fit and contingency tables), S12 (nonparametric methods), S13b (multiple linear regression), S14b (Fractional experiments and ANOVA).

Doelstellingen

After completion of the course participants should be able to design, starting from a specific research objective, an adequate and efficient experiment or clinical trial and analyze the results obtained, using representative software, like R or SPSS. They should be able to analyze numerical and categorical data and have insight in the choice for and application of (generalized) linear models. They should be able to fit these models to available data, check underlying assumptions and interpret the results obtained. Furthermore they should have insight into the choice for and application of one-way and factorial ANOVA for randomized groups and repeated measures. They should know how to fit these models to available data, check underlying assumptions and interpret the results obtained, including multiple comparisons methods and contrasts. Principles of sample size determination should be understood and used in an adequate way. Finally, participants should be able to use statistical software in a proper way for the design and analysis of experiments.
