Abstract
In this paper, a winding reconfiguration method fora 6-phase reconfigurable PMSM drive system is proposed, which
provides the modulation index intended to acquire the required
phase voltage waveform. The approach is upgraded with an extra
series switch for better performance and reliability. This paper
also describes the possibility of implementation of field orientated
control for the drive system. Moreover, the thermal model of the
drive system is analyzed and simulated. The simulation results
verify the improvement due to the proposed method in terms of
balancing the maximum junction temperature of the power modules
to the minimum value. Also the junction temperature swing
in the power electronics due to the cooling effect during every
stop state and the temperature rise effect during acceleration of
the drive system is improved. This combination of both effects
improve the lifetime expectation of the power electronic circuit.
