Anti-Reflection Subwavelength Gratings for InP-based Integrated Waveguide Facets

Student thesis: Master

Abstract

The anti-reflection properties of subwavelength gratings based on the gradient index effect etched into the facets of InP-based waveguides is simulated using finite-difference time-domain simulations. Simulated reflections below -30 dB for TE and TM on the experimental InP membrane-on-silicon platform and -35 dB and -20 dB for TE and TM, respectively, on a commercially available InP platform were achieved at a wavelength of 1550 nm. Characterization of test structures in the IMOS platform is in quantitative agreement with simulations.
