Abstract
The work and life of Ptotr Szymañski is reviewed lie is the author of a classical paper on accclctating pipe flow, but is relatively unknown to the scientific community of today. The paper by SzymaAski is one of thc first related to unsteady friction, clearly explaining the underlying physics and with rigorous mathematics. Exactly half a century after his death, the authors of this current paper would like to pay a modest tribute to the man and his achievements.
