Abstract

Spray formation from diesel fuel injection through a heavy dutymulti-hole injector is studied in a newly developed high pressure, hightemperature cell, using high speed shadowgraphy. The sprayspatiotemporal evolution is found to reproduce well and is studied andgeometrically analysed using a combination of methods found inliterature. The geometrical analysis method is robust, spray penetrationhas been found to be proportional to tb with b ∼ 0.4, and the macroscopic spray angle θcone varies with time duringinjection. The precombustion technique is used to obtain engine-likeconditions.
